fantastic encaustic

Totally loving these works of art by Susan Najarian........I am so intrigued by this process...check it out.......

The photos are digitally manipulated and the images are then transferred to a wood frame covered in encaustic wax. Layers of wax then suspend the image, altering the appearance to produce the cloud like feeling of the medium.

"Encaustic is from the ancient Greek word that means to heat. The medium consists of beeswax melted with a small amount of resin to impart hardness. This mixture becomes paint when pigment is added to the molten wax. I use the hot wax like paint and I fuse layers of wax to a stable surface using a blow torch or heat gun....."

pretty coolio........to see more, and add one to your collection visit her etsy store here.............happy monday my friends! xoxo

** P.S. I FORGOT TO ADD ....if you mention knack in the convo section of your order on etsy you will receive 10 % off your purchase!

nursery before and after.......

This is the nursery project that me and my friend Teresa from art and light worked on together. Teresa was the designer of the room....I painted the furniture {except for the crib....it came that perfect gray!}, made a light fixture out of garden fencing for the bathroom, and tossed around my two cents every now and again! The fabulous mobile was custom made by Royal Buffet.... and the squirrel pillows were a collaboration between me and my fantastic hubby! :)

We had so much fun working on this project together and are really pleased with the end result.... hope you all enjoy the transformation and that it inspires you to freshen up or create your own spaces!

Thank you so much to Grace Bonney for the post on D*s today.....and welcome to all of you who may be visiting knack for the first time! So glad to have you........please stay awhile .....xoxo

sponsorlicious.....

Over the next few weeks I'll be highlighting my sponsors and letting you all know how special they are! Today, I'm so excited to be able to showcase the fantastic work of a local gal ..... Laura Aiken has her studio here in Greenville, SC where she creates and produces all kinds of gorgeous mosaic pieces {amongst many other things}......I simply love the piece she did above which is her self portrait and the amazing glass jewelry pieces.......such fantastic detail! I am amazed at what she can do, and how she executes such tiny pieces of color to create a masterpiece........

To see more of her work and keep up with all of her projects visit her etsy shop and check out her blog........she loves to do custom pieces....so please don't hesitate to ask if there is something special you would like!

my porch.......

happy monday friends.....I know I told you that I would have the nursery pictures up today ....and they were all ready to go ...BUT then ...they got some special attention {more later in the week!} ...so I will have to wait to post them until Thursday. I'm sorry for the change in plans........

....in the meantime, I had a little fun with my back porch this weekend! I moved things around ...planted some succulents.....made use of some old bottles laying around.......oh and let's not forget the tissue pom poms! YES....I made them after all of your encouragement........I know some of you will laugh your fannies off at this....but they were hard...and they're not supposed to be!! I made eight in four hours and two of which I had to throw away because they didn't turn out........CRAZY!! I do think I have the hang of it now though, and am excited about making more....hopefully I'll get faster:) xoxo
